Adam Naylor

Adam is originally from Bristol and qualified from the Royal Veterinary College London in 2007. After initially working in private exotic referral practice, he moved to the USA in 2011 to take up a position at the Wildlife Center of Virginia, working with a wide range of native species including rodents, snakes, and lizards, to opossums, eagles, and bears. On his return to the UK, he carried out a Masters in Wild Animal Health at London Zoo and the Royal Veterinary College and collaborated with numerous zoos around the UK as part of his research thesis looking reproductive disease of tapir. In 2013 he joined the veterinary department at Bristol Zoo and assisted in formulating and teaching a conservation masters degree run by the University of Bristol, School of Veterinary Sciences. Adam joined the RZSS veterinary department in 2014 as the European College of Zoological Medicine veterinary resident. This was the first residency position to be approved by the European College of Zoological Medicine in the UK and only the third in the world; both a fantastic achievement for RZSS as well as an incredibly exciting opportunity for Adam.
Alasdair Hotston Moore

Alasdair graduated from Cambridge (UK) in 1990 and has focussed on general surgery in dogs and cats through his career. He completed an internship and residency at Bristol veterinary school and afternoon a short time in research returned there as a lecturer and then senior lecturer in surgery from 1997-2009. During this time he gained post graduate qualifications in small animal cardiology, veterinary radiology, small animal surgery and medical education. At Bristol he became head of small animal surgery, program director of the veterinary nursing degree and deputy head of the veterinary science degree.
From 2009-2017 he was head of referral surgery and clinical director at a private referral hospital in the UK and member of the advisory board of the largest UK corporate group, IVC-Evidensia. He moved to Concordia Petcare, Shanghai in 2018 as Chief Medical Officer

Alexandre Caron, DVM, MRCVS, DECVS, is senior surgeon at CHV Atlantia in Nantes, France. A graduate of University of Nantes, Dr. Caron completed an internship at University of Maisons-Alfort, then spent 1 year in a surgery and anesthesia fellowship at University of Nantes. He then undertook an internship specialized in orthopedics and neurosurgery at Fitzpatrick Referrals in Godalming, United Kingdom, before entering a residency program shared between Fitzpatrick Referrals and VRCC in Laindon, United Kingdom.
Ana Jacinto

Ana Jacinto graduated from the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, in Vila Real, Portugal. She then spent several years working in general practice in Portugal before undertaking an internship at Cambridge University. This was followed by a residency in small animal internal medicine at the University of Edinburgh where Ana continued to work as a locum lecturer. She worked in the internal medicine service in a busy referral veterinary hospital in Paris, France and in a large referral centre in Hertfordshire, England, before joining the IDEXX team as an internal medicine consultant. Ana is a European Diplomate in Veterinary Small Animal Medicine (DipECVIM-CA) and has the RCVS Specialist title in Small Animal Medicine (Internal Medicine).
Andrew Enders

Dr. Andrew Enders grew up in Pasadena, Maryland, where he spent his free time hunting, practicing martial arts (he has two black belts), and studying Spanish, in which he is now fluent. He received his B.S. degree in Animal and Veterinary Sciences from Clemson University in 2011, after only three years. He remains an avid Clemson football fan to this day. Dr. Enders received his D.V.M. degree from Cornell University in 2015. After leaving Ithaca, he completed a rotating small animal internship at the Animal Medical Center in New York City and stands by the statement that it was truly the best year of his life. From there he moved to Blacksburg, Virginia to complete his ophthalmology residency, concurrently receiving his M.S. degree in Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences researching alternative therapies for canine glaucoma.
Bianca Hettlich

Dr. Hettlich is originally from Germany and obtained her veterinary degree from the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, Germany in 1999. Immediately after graduation, she moved to Texas, USA, to pursue advanced training in small animal surgery. She completed 2 years of internship in the Small Animal Clinic of the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences of Texas A&M University, followed by a 3 year residency in small animal surgery. Upon completion of her residency, she remained at Texas A&M as a Clinical Assistant Professor in small animal surgery with an emphasis on neurosurgery. She became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2006.
In 2008, Dr. Hettlich moved to Columbus, Ohio and joined the College of Veterinary Medicine of The Ohio State University as an Assistant Professor in small animal orthopedic surgeon. There she built her research in spinal biomechanics and became Associate Professor with tenure in 2014.
In 2015, she moved back to Europe and joined the Vetsuisse Faculty at the University of Bern, Switzerland. While still having an emphasis on small animal orthopedics and neurosurgery, she is now performing soft tissue surgery as well. In 2018, she obtained the degree of habilitation and became tenured again at the University of Bern.
Since completing her residency in 2004, Dr. Hettlich has been increasingly involved in teaching of veterinary students and providing continuing education for veterinarians, veterinary technicians and fellow specialists. She continues to perform research and publishes in the area of canine spine as well as small animal orthopedics.
Brigite Pedro

Brigite Pedro graduated from the University of Porto (Portugal) in 2008. She moved to the UK soon after graduation, where she did a general internship, followed by a cardiology internship. In 2012 she started a cardiology residency at the University of Liverpool and completed a master’s degree in cardiovascular pathophysiology. She became a European Veterinary Specialist in Small Animal Cardiology in 2016 and since then she has been working at Willows Veterinary Centre & Referral Centre, West Midlands.
Brigite is currently doing a clinical PhD investigating the effect of heart rate on survival time of dogs with atrial fibrillation.
Her main areas of interest are:
- Management of arrhythmias, in particular dogs with atrial fibrillation
- Management of congenital diseases
Diana Raquel Martins da Silva Ferreira

Completed in 2010 the degree with masters in Veterinary Medicine at the Faculdade de Medicina Veterinaria of the Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (FMV-UTL). Afterwards, performed traineeships in veterinary dermatology, at the school hospital of the FMV-UTL, and at the Studio Dermatologico Veterinario in Milan, Italy.
In 2011 integrated the intern team of the Fundaciò Hospital Clínic Veterinari of the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, where in 2012 started the residency in Veterinary Dermatology, credited by the European College of Veterinary Dermatology (ECVD). Obtained the Diplomate of the ECVD title in 2016.
Founded in 2018 the Portuguese Society of Veterinary Dermatology of which is President of the directive board.
Works as a dermatologist in Portugal at the OneVet Group, and in the United Kingdom, at the Animal Health Trust.
Erin O’Connell

Erin graduated from Massey University, New Zealand in November 2007. After two years working in mixed practice in New Zealand she packed up her bags in moved to the United Kingdom. She worked in various companion animal practices before moving to the University of Liverpool in September. Erin has completed a rotating Internship in Small Animal Studies and a subsequent internship in Oncology. In March 2014 she began a residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine. In April 2017 Erin took up the post of Lecturer.
Esther Barrett

Esther holds both the RCVS and European diplomas in diagnostic imaging and is a recognised specialist in the field. Esther operates a freelance imaging service throughout Wales and the West Country. Esther is involved in the management of cases referred to Eastcott Veterinary Hospital and is also available for radiology and ultrasound referrals at Eastcott including ultrasound-only appointments. Written reports are usually e-mailed to the referring practice on the same day.
Ewan Ferguson

Ewan Ferguson graduated from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in Edinburgh in 1982 and spent several years in companion animal practice in London before joining the Royal Veterinary College in 1990. He obtained the RCVS Diploma in Veterinary Dermatology in 1993 and entry to the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Specialist Register. He has given numerous presentations at local, national, European and World meetings over the last 28 years and contributed to the British Small Animal Veterinary Association Manuals. He is a past Secretary of the British Veterinary Dermatology Study Group, past RCVS Dermatology Board member and past Chief Examiner for the RCVS Diploma in Veterinary Dermatology.
He is currently self-employed and runs a secondary and tertiary clinical referral service based at a number of multidisciplinary specialist veterinary clinics around London and the Southeast. In 2016 he rejoined the Dermatology Team at the Royal Veterinary College. Together, these posts make him one of the few full time clinical veterinary dermatologists in the United Kingdom with particular interests in canine atopy, immunotherapy, endocrinology and off piste skiing.
Federico Vilaplana Grosso

Federico graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Córdoba, where he continued working for a few months as an intern at the Small Animal Department.
After a year doing externships in different hospitals in Spain and France, he began a small animal rotating internship in the National Veterinary School of Alfort (Paris, France). Later, he continued his training with a specialized internship in internal medicine and another specialized internship in diagnostic imaging at the same institution.
Afterwards he began a residency in diagnostic imaging at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Utrecht (The Netherlands), where he obtained the diploma of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (ECVDI). Then he stayed working for a year at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Utrecht.
Then, he moved to the USA and worked for a year as an Assistant Professor at the College of Veterinary Medicine of Purdue University.
Since 2017, he is working as an Assistant Professor at the College of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Florida, where he recently obtained the diploma of the American College of Veterinary Radiology (ACVR).

Francisco Clemente Vicario

Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (University of Extremadura, 1993). Dedicated since then to Small Animal Medicine, with special interest in oncology. From 2003 to 2012 he combined private clinic with teaching as an associate professor at Cardenal Herrera CEU University of Valencia, where he was responsible for the oncology service of the university hospital.
In 2012 he moved to the United States to perform a residency in Medical Oncology by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, at Ohio State University, where he also completed a Master's Degree in Comparative and Veterinary Medicine, finishing both in July 2015.
Since 2015 he is an American Diplomate in Oncology from the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Dip. ACVIM) and works at La Merced Veterinary Oncology (Calpe, Alicante), and with important Spanish veterinary hospitals such as VETSIA, Canis Mallorca and Ars Veterinaria.
His area of interest in research are clinical trials and the role of the dog as a model for the study of cancer in people. He has published in national and international journals and is the author of several book chapters related to oncology and hematology. He has presented papers at national and international congresses (ACVIM forum, Veterinary Cancer Society), and has been guest speaker at conferences in Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, Chile and the United States.
Scientific Director of the Association of Spanish Veterinarian Specialists in Small Animals (AVEPA) since January 2018.
Frédéric Billen

Dr Frédéric Billen has graduated from the University of Liège in 2000. After an internship and residency in small animal internal medicine in Liège, he presented a Master’s degree on “The clinical, endoscopical and histological investigation of the nasopharynx in dogs” in 2005. He became diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine of Companion Animals in 2007, and defended a PhD thesis in 2008 on “Value of microbiological tests in the diagnosis of canine sino-nasal aspergillosis and evaluation of a new topical therapeutic protocol ».
He is senior lecturer in small animal internal medicine, teaches undergraduate students and is responsible of consultations in the field of uro-nephrology and respiratory medicine at the companion animal hospital of the university. He is ECVIM-CA resident advisor and coordinator of the companion animal rotating internship in the same institution.
His main interests are related to uro-nephrology and upper airway diseases in dogs and cats. He is author and co-author of more than 20 articles in international journals, book chapters and gives regularly postgraduate lectures in Belgium and abroad.
He is currently past-president of the European Society of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ESVIM) and member of the European Society of Veterinary Nephrology and Urology (ESVNU).
Gert ter Haar

Gert ter Haar is from the Netherlands and studied veterinary medicine at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Utrecht, where he graduated in February 1997. After an internship and surgical residency in Utrecht, he became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2002 and Head of the Department of ENT at the University of Utrecht in February 2003. His research on hearing in dogs led to his PhD thesis, a 220-page book entitled “Age-related hearing loss in dogs” in 2009. On the same day he became President of the International Veterinary Ear Nose and Throat association (IVENTA). He joined the surgical team of the Royal Veterinary College in London, United Kingdom, in 2011 as a senior lecturer in soft tissue surgery and got promoted to associate professor in soft tissue surgery and head of the ENT department and ENT, Audiology and Brachycephaly clinics at the RVC in 2015. In March 2017 he joined the team of the SDU (specialistische dierenkliniek Utrecht), the largest European specialist referral center in the Netherlands. He is author and co-editor of three surgical books and has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles in his field of interest. He gave over 300 national and international lectures on ENT medicine & surgery, hearing research in dogs and soft tissue/reconstructive surgery in dogs and cats. His current research involves hearing loss in dogs and cats and brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome.

Hannes Bergmann

Hannes graduated from the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna in 2001 and completed an internship at the School of Veterinary Medicine Hannover. Following research in perioperative pain therapy he achieved his Doctorate degree in 2003. After one year in small animal practice he started a three year residency in Small Animal Surgery at the University of Berne, Switzerland. Hannes has worked in referral practice in the UK since 2007 and became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons in July 2008.
Ignasi Rodríguez
×Ignasi Rodríguez graduated in Veterinary Medicine in 2003 at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, being the first of its class. Shortly after finishing the degree he combined his work as a general practitioner with the studies of the prestigious Master in Assisted Reproduction at the Institut Universitari Dexeus. Dr. Rodríguez continued his career by starting a PhD at the Center for Regenerative Medicine in Barcelona in the field of stem cells and regenerative medicine where he published more than 12 scientific articles in the most prestigious journals in the world, such as Nature. After completing his PhD with honours (cum laude), Ignasi returns to the field of veterinary medicine while preparing his trip to the United Kingdom where he will train to become a specialist in Oncology. In 2014 he moved to London to do an oncology internship at the Royal Veterinary College. During the first year, Ignasi obtained a position as a resident in Oncology in the same institution under the tutelage of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM). After passing the exams in the first call in July 2018, he obtained his ACVIM certificate in Veterinary Oncology, of great international prestige.

Javier Caruncho Méndez

Javier Caruncho Mendez studied veterinary medicine at the Faculty of Lugo at the University of Santiago de Compostela, graduating in 2005. He completed the internship program at the Rof Codina de Lugo University Hospital, in the internal medicine service, 2 years long, studying at the same time the Master in Small Animal and Exotic Clinic.
The next three years he worked as a veterinarian in the internal medicine service of the Rof Codina University Veterinary Hospital. During this time he stayed abroad in centers specializing in cardiology, at Gran Sasso Clinic in Milan (Italy), and at the Royal (Dick) Veterinary Hospital, at the University of Edinburgh (United Kingdom).
In 2012 he obtained the General Diploma Practicioner Cardiology by ESVPS.
He is a member of the Specialist Group in Cardiology and Respiratory System of AVEPA (GECAR), and has participated as a speaker in numerous courses and conferences on cardiology and abdominal ultrasound.
He works as a sonographer and cardiologist in the north of Galicia.

Jean-Philippe graduated in France and worked for three years in small animal practice in France. He did an internship in small animals at Colorado State University and then a residency in small animal Surgery at the University of Bristol. He obtained the Certificate in small animal surgery by the RCVS in 2001 and became Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeon in 2004 (ECVS).
Over the years, Jean-Philippe has worked as a soft tissue surgeon in a referral private practice in France.

Jérôme Benoit

Jerome graduated from the Veterinary School of Lyon, France in 2005 and did an internship at the Veterinary School of Maisons-Alfort, France. Jerome then completed his residency in Radiation Oncology at North Carolina State University, USA in 2009 and has obtained the ACVR-RO specialist status in 2010 and ECVDI add. Rad. Oncol. Specialist status in 2013. He has been practicing Radiation Oncology only for the past 10 years in the UK and in France. Jerome is also a consultant for several other European institutions.
Jerome has an advanced expertise on most radiotherapy techniques available (orthovoltage, megavoltage 3DRT and IMRT, brachytherapy, plesiotherapy).
Jerome is an active member of several organisations (ECVDI credentials committee and radioprotection committee ; ESVONC Executive Committee; ICRP Task Group 110)

Karen Perry

Karen Perry graduated from The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, Edinburgh in 2005. Following a short period in mixed practice, she completed an internship in small animal orthopedics and neurosurgery at Fitzpatrick Referrals in Surrey prior to undertaking a residency in small animal surgery back at the R(D)SVS. Following completion of this in 2010 and achievement of ECVS status in 2011, she joined the Royal Veterinary College, London as a lecturer in small animal orthopedics. Following four years there she moved to Michigan State University where she is currently an Assistant Professor in Small Animal Orthopedics. She has published widely in the veterinary literature with her main research interests being feline orthopaedics, traumatology and the correction of limb deformities associated with medial patellar luxation.

Mary graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London, in 2009. She worked in small animal practice, then completed an internship at a private practice in Hertfordshire, followed by a residency at the University of Liverpool. Mary has been working at North Downs Specialist Referrals in Surrey since 2014. Mary achieved her European Diploma in Small Animal Medicine in 2015 and is an RCVS Specialist in Small Animal Medicine.
