The General Practitioner Certificate is designed to meet the needs of busy veterinary professionals wanting to a gain a post-graduate qualification without sacrificing excessive time from their working routine.
The uniqueness of the GPCert is the modular nature of the program. Candidates complete structured sessions taught by experienced professionals, with a final examination based on the material covered across the sessions. Since its launch in 2003, over 6,000 veterinary professionals have gained an ISVPS Certificate.
Candidates are able to complete further study and course work in their own time, with guidance and assistance available throughout the course. With the completion of the examination, you will not only have gained valuable new skills, but also the confidence to use this additional knowledge to enhance the value of your practice. This education proves so valuable, that many vets have gone on to complete more than one GPCert.

How to get a General Practitioner Certificate
In order to obtain the certificate, candidates have to complete the required structured sessions. After finishing the program, delegates also have to undertake extra assessments suggested by ISVPS and partake in a final examination based on the material covered across the course.

How to achieve an ISVPS GPCert
- 1. Complete the course
The first step to achieving the GPCert is to complete the modular training programme with our accredited training provider, Improve Veterinary Education.During the course we recommend you:
- Complete the pre and post module questions (whilst not compulsory they are an important part of your exam preparation)
- Undertake further reading around the course syllabus
- 2. Pass the assessments
Please note, from 1st January 2023 our assessments have changed to further focus on assessing clinical experience of vets working in general practice.
For the GPCert the assessments are:- Presentation of 20 cases to assess breadth of clinical experience
- Completion of 90-minute online applied knowledge examination (OAKE) to assesses application of clinical knowledge.
